Make Sure Your Little Travelers are Safe!

Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of children ages 2 to 14. "The use of belt-positioning booster seats lowers the risk of injury to children in crashes by 59 percent compared to the use of vehicle seat belts." The finding comes from a study of children ages 4 through 7 by Partners for Child Passenger Safety (PCPS), a State Farm-funded research project at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

CCCC will join State Farm Insurance in its ongoing commitment to child passenger safety by inviting parents and caregivers to its 5th annual National Child Passenger Safety Day at Family Motors Used Cars at 5051 Stine Road in Bakersfield on Saturday, September 17, 2005. National Child Passenger Safety Day focuses on the significance of car seats, booster seats and seat belts for children riding in motor vehicles. Additionally, it promotes the critical message that age appropriate restraint and rear seating provide the best protection for children in motor vehicle crashes. Certified passenger safety technicians will inspect child car seats to make sure that each child is riding in a restraint that is age and weight appropriate and correctly installed. There will also be representatives from local organizations with additional safety tips and fun activities for the kids!

This event is sponsored by State Farm Insurance and Family Motors with support from CCCC, CHP, Kern County Fire Department, Kern County Sheriff's Department, Kern County Public Health Department, El Popular and Culligan Water. Download English or Spanish flyer for event.

State Farm & CCCC Keep Kids Safe on the Road

Although parents and caregivers have heard much about the need for child and booster seats for their children, 82 percent of child car seats are still not being used properly in some fashion and motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 14 and under.

To help spread the word of child passenger safety and how parents can better protect their children, State Farm sponsored Child Safety Day on May 15, 2004 in Lamont. A team of car seat safety technicians inspected 26 car seats. Upon inspection, the technicians recalled and replaced 17 car seats because of damage or age and cut the straps so they could not be used again. Also, two additional infants/toddler car seats were given to families who did not have one at all for their young children. More...
Buckle Up!: CCCC Video Promotes Car Safety for the Smallest Travelers

Did you know that 5 out of 6 children’s car seats are incorrectly installed? Car seats that are incorrectly installed lose their ability to protect children, and in some cases can even cause serious injury! Are you sure your child’s car seat is safe?

The Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) office, Community Connection for Child Care (CCCC) have teamed up to produce an informational video, in both English and Spanish, designed to help keep children and drivers safe! This video is being produced by the Kern Educational Telecommunications Network within KCSOS and CCCC’s Child Care Productions (CCP) program and is hosted by Irma Cervantes with KABE-TV, CH 39 Univision.

Along with safe driving tips, car seat installation demonstrations and creative tips for entertaining children in the car will be highlighted. The video will also remind parents to NEVER leave children unattended in a car. Support for this video has been generously provided by State Farm Insurance Companies. Production support for this video was provided by the Kern County Fire Department, HALL Ambulance Services , the Kern County Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol and UNIVISION. More
